Derry News: Hotline

It's time Derry re-thinks it's downtown renewal idea. In this age people do not want to shop in a downtown area.
Notice strip malls, individual box stores and malls always have customer traffic.
The idea the downtown Derry can flourish as a shopping area is silly.
We pumped in over a million dollars awhile back to re-vitalize downtown and now everyone wants to throw more money at it.
Let offices occupy downtown. Let the market decide what business will locate there.
If the town wants to spend money they should give taxpayers a rebate check.

It is time for Ann Evans to retire from the Planning Board and go back to attacking young skateboarders. She should stop whining about new open-minded members with far more relevant experience than hers. Go now Ann and save the embarrasment of not being reappointed.

The downtown revitalization in Derry has been done and redone and now we are at it again. If we want economic development, lets get some of the used car lots off Route 28/Ryan's Hill area and move some businesses in that will build new buildings, create jobs and increase tax revenue.

I agree. We do have a lot of business' here that aren't doing to much for our town. If anything, just giving Derry a bad, nasty appeal. It almost reminds me of a town or city outside a military base with all the lemon lots, tattoo parlors, check cashing shops. Just keep the strip clobs away! The problem is, how are we going to get good businesses to come to Derry?

Isn't this why the economic development director was hired? I haven't seen any businesses being brought into town, only more money being spent

Personally I shop downtown Nashua and Concord and always hit Portsmouth in the summer. I think more shops in the downtown would be nice. People are getting sick of malls and mainstreets seem to be making a come back.
